Blog Makeover Challenge : Day Nine

Today's task was to inject personality in our blog post. 

Daniela Uslan gave us these pointers for doing this.

1) Tell Stories

2) Be Vulnerable

3) Use words that you would normally use in your conversation

4) Be super specific

5) Poke fun at yourself a little bit

            I went though my posts and I think my posts reflect my personality.

Blog Makeover Challenge : Day Eight

Today's task was to format any recent blog post to make it easy to read.

She gave us five guidelines to format the post.

1) Keep the paragraphs short.

2) Use headings and subheadings to break up the text.

3) Use bullet points and numbered lists.

4) Make cleared division between ideas.

5) Highlight big ideas.

            I choose this post of mine to reformat and added  space between ideas to make it easy to read. Tell me how it looks in comments? 

Blog Makeover Challenge : Day Seven

Today's challenge was to organize our blog contents in such a way that it would be easy for our visitors to find relevant posts.

To accomplish this we were given the option to do one of these tasks:

1) Categorizing the posts and putting them on sidebar or in drop down menu

2) Creating a "Popular Post" page or widget

3) Cross linking between posts

4) Creating a 'start here' page that lists our most helpful posts

I have already categorized my posts and placed them on sidebar.

             I have popular post widget and I usually do cross linking between posts. So this was easy as I have already done it :)

Blog Makeover Challenge : Day Six

Our task of sixth day was to improve our blog post's headline. Headline of blog post plays an important role in making or breaking its success. Great headlines get a tremendous increase in your blog's traffic and social share.

  Our host Deniala Uslan introduced an awesome 
Headline Power Tool to analyse the headline based on length,sentiments,word choice and number of words. A good headline must score 70 or above.
                I checked one of my blog post's headling "Decorating with Rugs : Tips on Choosing the Right Area Rug for Your Lifestyle" It scored 50B+
          
After playing around with the tool I choose this headline "How to Choose the Absolutely Right Area Rugs" It scored 76A+  Wow, nice score.
    
This tool is terrific. From now on I am going to test all my blog post headlines before hitting the publish button.

Today's task is creating a branded image for blog post.
    I use my blog's url placed prominently on my images to make it branded. It serves dual purposes, brand my images and advertise my blog.

Today's task is to choose colours and integrate into our blog. 

      Since my blog place is a cozy home and I love to decorate it with floral prints I choose this background and colours.

           Today we have to choose fonts for our blog keeping in mind our blog place.

     I use Times New Roman font for my blog and I just love it. So I am not going to change it. I am happy with it.

Blog Makeover Challenge : Day Two

Today we got an interesting question "if your blog was a place, what would it be"? It is useful to understand the feeling you want your readers to  have when they visit your blog. It also helps to decide the visuals of your blog.

                  Here is my answer: My blog is a cozy home. Everyone here feels free and comfortable. There is an atmosphere of love, affection and mutual support and help.

Blog Makeover Challenge : Day One

For the first day, we were given the task of writing a mission statement for our blog. According to Daniela Uslan, mission statement is the fuel that keeps the blog going as well as a map that keeps it moving in the right direction.

      Here is my mission statement: I write about home, family and life, in general, to help others in facing life and managing home better. I do this because I love to share tips and ideas to help others.
